UN Condemns Appalling Destruction of the Mamfe hospital by NSAG



The United Nations has condemned in the strongest terms the burning of the Mamfe District Hospital at the locality of Egbekaw by an alleged armed group, who set the hospital ablaze on Wednesday 8th June 2022.

The Humanitarian Coordinator and Interim for Cameroon, made this condemnation in a written statement titled UN Condemns appalling destruction of Mamfe District Hospital dated June 12


The UN release attributed to Karen Perrin explained that the Mamfe District Hospital covers more than 8500 people in the area. The release added that although patients were transferred to different health units, the burning would deprive patients of care and weaken the health care system.

The report further noted that beginning in January 2022, five attacks targeted health workers and patients, some threatened, some abducted and some killed, adding that these constitute a violation of the rights of patients and health workers.


The report called for a full-fledged investigation and the perpetrators of the act brought to account. Health care workers, the report further explained, save the lives of people and as such, should be allowed to carry out their duties unfettered, without any hindrance. but instead should be protected.

The report was signed by UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Karen Perrin, head of Office OCHA.
