U.S. SOCCER STATEMENT AHEAD OF 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIER AGAINST MEXICO IN MEXICO CITY

ussoccer | As we prepare for our World Cup Qualifier against Mexico on March 24 at Estadio Azteca, we want to take a moment to reflect on the unimaginable and horrible event that occurred at a league match in Queretaro this past weekend.

U.S. Soccer has spoken with Mexican Football Federation authorities, who have informed us that spectators, teams, and players from both countries will be able to witness one of the world's most intense national team rivalries in a safe environment, as has been the case in previous matches at Estadio Azteca.

We believe that the pain caused by the devastating tragedy at Estadio Corregidora is not solely the responsibility of Mexico. While we may be rivals on the field, it's vital to remember that soccer is a worldwide community, and our link extends beyond rivalries, competition, and results.

Our thoughts are with the fans and families who have been touched, and we will continue to support our Mexican friends in the game and beyond.
