SMALL EKOMBE: Two children die after allegedly consuming poisoned cocoyams and vegetable meal

The death has been reported of two young children in the agrarian village of Small Ekombe, along the Kumba-Mbonge road after allegedly consuming poisoned cocoyams and vegetable meal on Friday 5th August 2022.

The two children, between the 3 and 13 age bracket are from the same womb.

According to multiple reports, the two children and their parents left their house that fateful Friday morning to the farm, and stopped at the "bush house" to prepare a meal to consume later or at the end of the farm work.

We later gathered that somewhere along the line, the children complained of being hungry and their parents ordered them to go to the bush house and consume their share of the meal.

After waiting for their return from the bush house, we further gathered the parents of the children and decided to go look for them, but only discovered the children wriggling on the ground and complaining of stomach pain.

They were immediately conveyed to the Kumba District Hospital, where all efforts by medics to save their lives ended in futility as they ended up dying.

At the time of writing, we have not been able to get the identity of the two children. But their death comes on the heels of the three children in Kumba who died in a similar situation on Saturday 30th July 2022.

It is highly speculated that after the family prepared the meal someone came behind and dropped a poisonous substance in the meal.
