Mauritania appoints ex-Comoros manager Amir Abdou as new coach

Africanews | The Mauritanian football association named former Comoros head coach Amir Abdou as the new manager of the national men's football team on Wednesday.

Amir succeeds Didier Gomes Da Rosa, a former Frenchman who has been blamed for the Mauritanian team's dismal performance.

"The Executive Committee of FFRIM has taken the following restructuring actions as a result of consultations and exchanges with the highest authorities of the state, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Parliamentary Relations: Terminate the functions of Mr. Didier Gomes Da Rosa, the national coach, and his whole technical staff; install Mr. Amir Abdou as the new national coach, as well as new technical staff for the national teams "Read the statement carefully.

This follows the national team's elimination from the Arab Cup group stage last year and a lackluster performance at the AFCON competition in Cameroon last month.

Amir's main goal will be to assist the national squad in qualifying for the AFCON competition in Ivory Coast in 2023.
