Mali: Military Junta Sets Transition Period At 24 Months

Malian authorities have officially confirmed 24 months as the duration of the transition before the organization of elections for a return to constitutional order.

"The period of the transition is fixed at 24 months from March 26, 2022, in compliance with Article 22 of Law No. 2022-001 of February 25, 2022, on the amendment of the Transition Charter," Mali's transition president, Colonel Assimi Goita, stated in a decree issued Monday evening.

The decision to make this confirmation of the transition's duration public comes only days after ECOWAS conducted an exceptional summit to discuss the situation in Mali, as well as Burkina Faso and Guinea, three nations under transition led by the military.
