KUMBA: CITY COUNCIL MAYOR PLEADS FOR A REFERENCE HOSPITAL

The Kumba City Council mayor has appealed to the Government to upgrade the Kumba District Hospital, Kumba 1 to a reference hospital.

Gregory Ntemeyork Mewanu was speaking to the press after visiting the ongoing construction works at the hospital in his capacity as Chairman of the Management Board on Thursday 2nd June 2022.

By virtue of the current Government nomenclature, the sitting Government Delegate automatically becomes Chairman of the Management Board of the hospital.

The City mayor Gregory N Mewanu took advantage of his inspection tour of the hospital to appeal to the Government to upgrade the Kumba District Hospital to a reference hospital adding that with the strategic location of Kumba, the transformation of the hospital would ensure various departments and specialists and will prevent its inhabitants to travel to other towns in the country for treatment.

The current construction of patient wards and offices for medical personnel sponsored by funds from the government comes on the heels of an attack on the hospital by unknown gunmen on February 10th, 2017.

The appeal to the Government to transform Kumba District Hospital into a reference hospital has been echoed several times by sons and daughters of Kumba. and prominent nonindigenes, who had spent a better part t their lives in this town.

The City mayor was taken on a guided tour of the construction work currently going on in that hospital by the main contractor Ateke Fidelis of ABAC Enterprise Kumba.
