FAKO: Road accident claims one life; several wounded

The legendary mile-29 hill sandwiched between Ekona Mbenge and Muyuka, Fako Division, Southwest Region has once again resurfaced in the news following a fatal road accident that occurred on Saturday 4th June 2022 killing one female passenger on the spot and several wounded we have learned.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus belonging to a popular travel agency based in Kumba was traveling from Fako Division to Meme when the accident occurred.

According to Mr. Ebako, who was equally traveling to Kumba in another bus, the accident occurred as a result of brake failure, adding the bus later skidded off the road into a ravine opposite the mineral water producing company known as SUPERMONT.

He further said, one female passenger died and several others were wounded in the 19-seater bus accident and were transferred to hospitals in Muyuka and Buea.

At the time of sending this report, we were informed that several other passengers have died although this claim could not be independently confirmed.

The mile-29 hill has over the years claimed the lives of several people traveling along this stretch of road with most of the accidents happening as a result of the poor state of the vehicles that plow this road or overspeeding.

Most of the accidents, especially for vehicles descending often end up in the ravine opposite the mineral water producing company.

The Saturday 4th road accident happened at the same spot as another accident on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
