Eto’o rejects Matip’s offer to play for Cameroon

Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto'o declines Joel Matip's request to play for Cameroon. The 30-year-old was a key member of the Indomitable Lions at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He turned down numerous invitations to represent his country in recent years.

Cameroon defender Joel Matip's time with the national team is over. Reports suggest he is now seeking a return to play for the Indomitable Lions at the World Cup. President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o has rejected the offer.

We worked hard alone, and we have big respect for players who honor this nation in bad and in good times. I had been on the best teams in Europe, but I have never undermined playing for the Lions. “I think Matip’s times are over, he must permanently stay in Liverpool. Those who started this job will finish it in Qatar. It doesn’t matter who they are, but they are going to Qatar to enjoy the fruits of qualifying.
