On Tuesday, the Cameroonian was sworn in after being confirmed last May by the U.S. Senate.

"It was humbling to be sworn in today as the U.S. Global HIV/AIDS Coordinator's Ambassador-at-Large. @PEPFAR has been a game-changer in the fight against HIV/AIDS. With the power of partnerships, we can end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030," said Dr. John N. Nkengasong.

To recall, John N. Nkengasong, previously director of the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a specialized technical institution of the African Union, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia became the first person of African origin to hold this position.
