Cameroon sniper kills seven villagers

A lone gunman opened fire on residents of four villages in northeastern Cameroon on Monday killing seven people and seriously wounding two others.

Awounfac Alienou, who is the Senior Divisional Officer for that locality assured that the security forces are mobilized to find him but called on the population to "mobilize massively in self-defense groups to hunt him down.


The events occurred in the locality of Belel, in the Adamaoua region.

"The lone gunman, carrying an AK47-type weapon and four magazines loaded on both sides of his belt, opened fire on the innocent populations of four villages in the locality of Belel, in the Adamaoua region," Yves Bertrand Awounfac Alienou, prefect of the Vina department where Belel is located, said in a statement.


The attacks left "seven people dead and two seriously wounded," according to the SDO, a toll confirmed by the state-run Cameroon Radio-Television (CRTV), which said a "serial killer" was involved and that four of his victims died on the spot and three died of their injuries in hospital.
