Cameroon - Nachtigal Dam: Cameroonians will operate and maintain the infrastructure

Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC), the project company of the Nachtigal dam (420 MW) located 65 km from the capital Yaoundé, informs that it has launched since February 2022 professionalization plan for the agents of its operating management.

According to the company, the objective of this training program is to transfer the skills that Cameroonians need to be able to operate and maintain the hydroelectric facility under construction for which the State of Cameroon has granted a 35-year concession to the project company.

A total of 45 NHPC staff and 10 staff from other partner companies, such as Cameroon's Electricity Development Corp. and Eneo, the exclusive distributor and subsidiary of Actis, will eventually benefit from the program. This campaign, which attracted no less than 3,500 applications, has resulted in the hiring of 23 people, with an average age of 34 years.

In 2021, NHPC launched its first large-scale recruitment campaign for its operations management. According to the official timetable, the Nachtigal plant shows early May in progress, with a completion rate of more than 60%.
