Cameroon Ministry of Defense: Senator Elizabeth Regina Mundi has been freed

The Ministry of Defense communicates:
On the basis of information previously cross-checked, and thanks to the collaboration of the population,
A detachment composed of elements of our Defense and Security Forces has been engaged since the morning of Sunday, May 29, 2022, in an operation to approach a terrorist hideout in ASHONG, BATIBO district, MOMO department, NORTHWEST region.
As our men approached on the evening of Monday, May 30, 2022, heavily armed terrorists opened fire to halt their progress, while some of their comrades attempted to escape with the hostages held captive in their hideout.
The appropriate and professional response of the elements of the Defense and Security Forces allowed them to be put out of action with the following results:
Several hostages were freed, including Senator Elizabeth Regina MUNDI;
a dozen terrorists neutralized, and several others wounded and on the run;
03 terrorists captured;
several assault rifles and ammunition of various calibers seized;
14 Improvised Explosive Devices seized and defused;
a pick-up truck used by the terrorist group seized;
the vehicle of Senator Elizabeth Regina MUNDI was recovered.
Our valiant Defense and Security Forces, committed to the defense of our territorial integrity, the protection of the population and their property, as well as the restoration of peace wherever it is threatened throughout the national triangle, are determined to pursue their missions with courage, honor, and loyalty.
They know they can count on the constant collaboration of the population and defense forces of the country.
Finally, it should be noted that the High Command closely monitors the respect of the rules of engagement and Human Rights in the conduct of operations.
