Blaise Compaoré asks for forgiveness from the people of Burkina Faso and the family of Sankara

Blaise Compaoré, a former leader of Burkina Faso, has begged the deceased Thomas Sankara's family and the Burkinabe people for forgiveness.


The former ruler, who was removed from office in 2014, was given a life sentence for the murder of his predecessor in 1987. Facts for which he publicly apologizes today.

"I ask forgiveness to the people of Burkina Faso for all the acts I may have committed during my term of office and especially to the family of my brother and friend Thomas Sankara," says the message of Blaise Compaore read by Lionel Bilgo.


According to the spokesman for the government of Faso, the former head of state "assumes and deplores from the bottom of his heart, all the suffering and tragedies experienced by all the victims during my tenure at the head of the country and ask their families to forgive me.
