AKWAYA: Political elites, Moderator, and Chiefs appeal to warring tribes "to put down swords"

Updated: Jul 27, 2022

Political elites, traditional rulers of Akwaya Subdivision, Manyu Division, Southwest Region, and the moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, The RT. Rev. Samuel Fonki Forba have appealed to the warring factions in Akwaya to put down their swords and pursue peace.

This call was made yesterday in Buea in a meeting convened by Akwaya political elites, and traditional rulers to evaluate the recent fighting between the Olitis and Ballins in Akwaya.

BiVoundi 24 News recalls that on 22, the Olitis allegedly attacked the Ballins. The clashes left several deaths on both sides.

At the Buea meeting, the Akwaya elites held the Olitis for orchestrating the crisis out of greed and that the act should never be repeated given the two are brothers.

The meeting also noted that the Anglophone crisis has rendered human life valueless.

A steering committee was created to liaise with the administration to find and establish lasting peace in the subdivision.

BiVoundi 24 News observes that when the fighting occurred the government and some pro-government Akwaya elites squarely laid the blame on the separatists.
