CAF press release
Zimbabwe and Kenya disqualified for the qualifiers of the Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d'Ivoire 2023-
Following the continuation of the suspension of Kenya and Zimbabwe from all activities by the FIFA Congress, CAF announced that the two associations will not participate in the second round of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023.
These qualifiers will kick off on June 1, 2022.
Despite their suspension for political interference, CAF included them in the draw on a provisional basis, provided that the suspension is lifted two weeks before their first matchday of the qualifiers.
Kenya and Zimbabwe have not yet met the criteria required by FIFA as a prerequisite for the lifting of their suspension. Therefore, the following decisions apply:
- Both teams, Kenya and Zimbabwe will be considered losers and eliminated from the competition.
- Groups C and K to which they belonged will be composed of only three (3) teams and the order of matches will be maintained according to the match schedule communicated to the teams after the draw on April 19th 2022.
- The first and second placed teams of these groups will qualify for the final tournament in Cote d'Ivoire.
