2022 Disability Awareness Day: The Government Asked To Do More For Persons With Disabilities



Ahead of the celebration of the 2022 edition of Disability Awareness Day coming on Sunday 17th, 2022, the Government of Cameroon has been called upon to do more for persons with Disabilities or special abilities.


The Cameroon Country Coordinator of Disability Awareness, Takang Ayah Ayuk made this appeal in an interview he granted BiVoundi 24 News in his Kumba office on Tuesday 7th June 2022.


A British national called Dave Thompson based In Warrington United Kingdom birthed disability awareness to draw the world's attention to the plight of disabled persons all over the world.

Takang Ayah Ayuk, who also doubles as the president of another Kumba based handicapped association called "Close The Gap" told BiVoundi 24 News that Dave Thompson created the organization to draw the attention of the international community to the plight of disabled persons in order to draw attention to marginalization and stigmatization of same adding that the creation of the organization has encouraged disable persons to showcase their God-given potentials and skills where ever they find themselves.


He further averred that on the occasion of this year's celebration would advocate for the right of persons with Disabilities or special abilities.

While commending the Government of Cameroon for doing so much to integrate the disabled persons into the society he regretted that in Cameroon disabled persons are discriminated in as much as employment is concerned.


BiVoundi 24 News notes each handicapped person in Cameroon with a disability card issued by the government pays half of his or her hospital bill in any Government medical institution.


The Children of the same are admitted free of charge to any Government institution of learning.
